Sustainable development was first introduced in 1987 with the publication of the Brundtland report, warning of the negative environmental consequences of economic growth and globalization, which sought to find solutions to the problems caused by industrialization and population growth.
Indeed, sustainability is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the capacity of future generations, ensuring the balance between economic growth, environmental protection and social well-being. Mentioned above, the Brundtland report name commonly given to a publication officially intituée ” Our Common Future ” (Our Common Future), written in 1987 by the World Commission on Environment and Development Organization United Nations, chaired by Norwegian Gro Harlem Brundtland.
Since this report, the expression has spread around the world.
Many of the challenges facing humanity, such as climate change, water scarcity, inequality and hunger, can only be solved at a global level and by promoting sustainable development: either through ” a commitment to social progress, environmental balance and economic growth.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are an appeal by the United Nations to all countries of the world to meet the great challenges facing humanity and to ensure that that all individuals have the same opportunities to live a better life without compromising our planet.
Indeed, the objectives are the following: eradicate poverty in all its forms and in all countries, protect the planet and guarantee prosperity for all.
For the sake of appropriation and communication, the objectives are sometimes grouped into five areas, namely ” 5Ps “: people, prosperity, planet, peace and partnerships.
